Introducing Altivity – Redefining the Role of AI in Healthcare

One of the greatest things about the healthcare industry is the sheer speed at which it seems to evolve. I’m constantly amazed by the passion, dedication, and expertise demonstrated by our leading healthcare innovators, particularly in the area of AI.
Just recently, Canon Medical launched its bold new approach to AI innovation…Altivity. We are extremely proud of this development, as it consolidates our range of deep learning and machine learning technologies to help clinicians deliver better outcomes to their patients and their business. If nothing else, the last twelve months have shown to us how adaptable and ready for change we need to be. The strain placed on healthcare systems by COVID-19 has pushed clinicians to their limits. Incidences of cancer, heart disease, and stroke are rising. And the increasing complexity of patient data is creating new opportunities that could easily be missed without insights and guidance from the right technology.

For many, these issues represent overwhelming challenges that are too difficult to resolve or require too great an investment. For us, however, we see them as opportunities for growth. At a time when resources are limited, we are doing everything we can to help our customers deliver informed healthcare with efficient workflows, so their patients can access the tailored treatment they need. And we are doing it with the power of AI.

Canon Medical has been steadily redefining the role of AI in healthcare, starting with our Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine. Initially developed for CT, Canon Medical quickly deployed this Deep Learning Reconstruction technology across MRI and PET-CT systems to help speed up scan times and improve image quality. Next, came the launch of Automation Platform and the AUTOStroke solution, both of which were designed to enhance clinical confidence and streamline workflows with the power of deep learning technology.

More recently, Canon Medical has transformed the ultrasound space with AI innovations, available in certain regions, that revolutionise clinical workflows. Through leveraging the power of AI, Canon Medical has been able to automate standardised serial measurements to increase clinical productivity and reporting accuracy.

As ever, our vision is to build a future where every individual receives the diagnosis and treatment that they need to live their lives to the fullest. While this won't happen overnight, I know that it starts with systems and solutions that are “Made for Life”.

Deep learning reconstruction in high quality CT

What is Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE)?

AiCE is an innovative approach to CT reconstruction that uses Deep Learning technology to match the spatial resolution and low-noise properties of advanced model-based iterative reconstructions. Trained using vast amounts of high-quality image data, reconstructed with an advanced model-based iterative reconstruction (MBIR) algorithm, AiCE distinguishes true signal from noise to deliver exceptional images at low radiation dose. Furthermore, AiCE can be seamlessly integrated into your routine exam protocols to reconstruct images at a speed fast enough to keep pace in a busy clinical setting while delivering up to 82.4%*1 reduced dose levels compared to conventional reconstruction technology (Filtered Back projection). AiCE has potential to aid in fast and confident clinical results by providing low noise, natural noise texture*2, sharp high-contrast resolution, and clear low-contrast detectability.

*1 Validated on Aquilion ONE / Genesis Edition *2 Natural defined as similar to FBP compared to MBIR. This does not apply to Aquilion Precision.

Deep learning reconstruction in high quality MR

A new era of clarity has begun in MR with Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE)

Sharp, clear, and distinct images. See through the noise.

Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE) is the world's first fully integrated MR deep learning reconstruction technology producing stunning MR images that are exceptionally detailed and with the low-noise properties you might expect of a high SNR image. AiCE can be applied across a broad range of anatomies, contrast and applications so you no longer need to compromise between resolution and speed.

AiCE intelligently removes noise from images which results in higher SNR* and enables increased resolution. By improving SNR you can achieve sharp, clear, and distinct images utilising the power of deep learning to see through the noise.

AiCE has been carefully designed by scientists with expert knowledge of MR physics and signal processing together with specialists in programming advanced AI neural networks to ensure accurate and robust results for all patient studies. To overcome contrast and signal variation in MRI data, AiCE denoising is restricted to high-frequency noise leaving low frequency information untouched. The amount of noise reduction and image sharpness can be fine-tuned to cater for your site preferences to ensure optimal diagnostic image quality is provided for all patients.

*AiCE provides higher SNR compared to typical low pass filters
