REPORT: MEDICAL NOW KEY PART OF CANON’S FUTURE

April 5, 2017 — The healthcare industry is now a key part of the future plans for Japanese industrial conglomerate Canon as the company’s core businesses mature and it looks for growth opportunities, according to a new article in Nikkei Asian Review.

The April 5 article describes how Canon’s management has embraced the medical field, in particular after the completion of its acquisition of Toshiba Medical Systems in December 2016. Canon elevated its medical operations to the status of a core business this month and made Toshiba Medical’s president, Toshio Takiguchi, a senior managing executive officer at Canon — a move the newspaper said was “unusual treatment” for the head of an acquired company.
