TOSHIBA MEDICAL SYSTEMS TO ESTABLISH YOKOHAMA DEVELOPMENT CENTER

Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation (Toshiba Medical; headquarters: Otawara, Tochigi prefecture, Japan; President: Toshio Takiguchi) will establish the Yokohama Development Center in Tsurumi ward, Yokohama, in February 2017 with a workforce of one hundred people who will be involved in expanding the scale of our operations and pioneering new business opportunities. The center will focus on the development of anticipatory technologies and basic component technologies for diagnostic ultrasound systems, MRI systems, and clinical laboratory systems as well as the development of industrial video cameras, including those used for medical equipment. The company will institute policies to promote the continuous enhancement of the center in the future.

In addition to its headquarters in Japan, which plays the central role, Toshiba Medical has established R&D bases around the world (in the USA, UK, France, China, and India) to promote the most effective utilisation of the special skills available in each country. The Yokohama Development Center will serve as one of these R&D bases, allowing the company to accelerate the development of core technologies through cooperative efforts involving headquarters and our R&D bases outside Japan.

By taking full advantage of its favorable location as a development base in the Tokyo metropolitan area, the company will aim to strengthen development through activities within a framework of industry-academia-government cooperation involving healthcare facilities, partner companies, and other organizations throughout the country.
