Canon Medical and Spectronic Medical to offer integrated AI solution for accurate radiotherapy planning in MRI

Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan, 3 December 2021 – Canon Medical has announced integration with Spectronic Medical’s MRI Planner software to strengthen its presence in the field of radiotherapy planning.
Utilising an innovative AI application, the MRI Planner software provided by Spectronic Medical is a technology that utilises standard MR images to create synthetic CT images, including depictions of organs at risk. Combined with outstanding noise-free images produced by Canon Medical’s Advanced intelligent Clear-IQ Engine (AiCE), powered by Altivity, MR labs utilising this solution can aim for accurate oncology treatment planning services. With the benefit of MRI’s fine delineation of contrast between soft tissues allowing target lesions to be clearly depicted in synthetic CT images, radiotherapy planning can be completely conducted in the MRI lab. In addition, with Canon Medical’s suite of accelerated scan technologies, including 2D and 3D Compressed SPEEDER, MR labs can look forward to the reduced procedural time.
Radiation therapy, along with surgery and chemotherapy, is one of the three pillars of cancer treatment. Spectronic Medical MRI Planner software is currently CE marked and approved for use in pelvic, brain, head and neck radiotherapy planning in Europe, and it is FDA 510(k) pending in the US.
