Canon Medical Systems ANZ Won the 2021 MTAA Kerrin Rennie Award

The Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) announced on 19 November 2021 that Canon Medical Systems ANZ Pty Limited is the winner of the 2021 MTAA Kerrin Rennie Award for its innovative Hi-Def technology – the world’s first high-definition (Hi-Def) flat panel detector used in image-guided endovascular procedures.

Inaugurated in 2007, The Kerrin Rennie Award for Excellence in Medical Technology – Improving Quality of Life was established to recognise and profile the innovative and extraordinary contribution of medical technology in improving health outcomes of Australian patients.

Canon Medical has introduced the high-definition (Hi-Def) flat panel detector for use in image-guided endovascular procedures. The Hi-Def panel is available on the Alphenix range of interventional imaging systems and with its 76 micron pixel imaging mode, provides more than twice the spatial resolution of conventional flat panel detectors.

Ricky Davidson, Canon Medical ANZ Manager of X-Ray and Angiography, said: “It's a great honour for Canon Medical to be the winner of the prestigious 2021 MTAA Kerrin Rennie Award. The Kerrin Rennie Award is for Excellence in Medical Technology and Improving Quality of Life. This aligns so perfectly with Canon Medical's Made for Life philosophy, prioritising patient outcomes as the primary driver of our innovation. It is motivating to receive recognition about the great innovations being released from Canon Medical. Medical imaging devices are getting smaller, yet of the levels of obesity in Australian and NZ adults is growing with two-thirds being either overweight or obese. Larger patient sizes make it increasingly more difficult to accurately position and assess devices during coronary interventions, especially when steep angles are employed. Canon Medical have developed a new Cardiac320 tube for the lab that features higher power output and smaller focal spot to give you sharper and clearer images, regardless of patient size. Our Cardiac320 tube provides better visualisation for you to treat your patients with greater confidence.”

With the highest level of resolution available in the angiography market, the innovative Hi-Def technology allows clinicians to perform minimally invasive procedures with clear images to see fine details, enabling them to prioritise clinical decisions and patient outcomes.
